Jean's Collaboration with MUSA Fabric by Joy Soo

The Musa Advocacy started in January 2020, during the outbreak of the pandemic when this project was initiated by Ms. Joy Soo, a Certified Public Accountant and a Fashion Designer who finding her life's purpose in this endeavor was able to sustain a livelihood project for the Persons Deprived of Liberty or prisoners in 3 jail institutions of the whole province of Davao del Norte, Philippines. Davao del Norte is the Banana capital of the Philippines. Banana's fiber is the main material used in producing MUSA FABRIC. Hence, derived MUSA which is the Scientific name of banana. The process of decortication of the banana fiber is done by some association of men and women in the locality. It's polished grade is combined with colorful threads intricately woven by the prisoners using a manual weaving loom which made the fabric naturally artisan. It may take one day to make a 3 meter MUSA Fabric but Artisanal Musa is made out of love and passion, and that what makes its quality even more valuable.
The Musa Fabric has benefited not only the prisoners in the jail institutions but also the Indigenous Women Community and different tribes of the province of Davao de Norte as it extended its operations to the Muslims, Ata Manobo, Dibabawon, Mangguangan, Mandaya and the different local women who are involved in this project like the seamstresses and local artisan collaborators designing their individual products for Musa like bags, earrings, bracelets, necklaces, sandals, hair accessories, hats, key chains, neckties and a lot more. Musa Fabric entered the global market when it partnered with MUSA Ambassadors from different places all over the world in the field of Fashion Design and Business who embraced Musa as their own advocacy and spread its awareness through promoting and selling all Musa products in their country. Currently Musa is exclusively carried by partners in different states of North America. Exclusive distribution through the Musa Ambassadors are also in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Japan, Thailand and Morocco.
For the people who embraced MUSA all over the world, whatever race, belief and religion, being a Musa Advocate through buying MUSA products has given so much joy in the hearts of the children under the CARE FOR MUSA, a monthly reach out project which aims to reach young people from the various ethnic tribes in Davao del Norte, Philippines.
As the pandemic continues this 2021, MUSA is the silver lining in this dark era of our times where in a poor country like the Philippines, survival is an everyday battle. The Musa Advocacy, helped the people benefited in this project find God in this most darkest time of our existence.  MUSA FABRIC, PROUDLY, DAVAO DEL NORTE, MADE IN THE PHILIPPINES.
